Hardware recommendations

SoundPLAN supports both multi-core and multi-processor PCs. Each processor of a multi-processor PC can in turn have several cores.

Processor type

When buying a new PC, we recommend that you buy the latest processor type but not the fastest processor of this series, because it is often too expensive. With a slightly slower processor, you will get a much better price/performance ratio.

Since the pre-calculations in the calculation kernel (emission calculation, DGM edge search, building preparation ...) cannot (yet) be executed in parallel on several kernels, processors with a high basic clock rate or high overclocking (Turbo Boost) are particularly powerful. Therefore, both the clocking and the number of cores/threads are important.

Operating system

Current Windows version and Windows Server version - the 64-bit version works best, as this operating system can request much more memory and you have the choice between SoundPLANnoise 32-bit and SoundPLANnoise 64-bit.

SoundPLAN can generally be executed with the currently available operating system. If software adaptations are necessary, these will be provided at short notice.

Graphics card, hard disk, memory and monitor

For graphics card, hard disk, memory and monitor, we recommend basing your decision on the same principles as that regarding the processor: Buy the best hardware available at a reasonable price. The screen should have Full HD resolution.

At least 1 GB Memory should be included per core. The graphics card must support OpenGL 4.1 and should have its own memory, as the 3D speed of so-called "onboard graphics cards" is rather weak.

One second screen, for example for 3D graphics or a connection to online map services (Google Maps, OSM) is highly recommended.
